Private plans are underwritten
The carrier reviews your health history and can decline. Well-controlled conditions are frequently accepted. Conditions in active treatment are where declines happen most often.
Which carrier matters more than which condition
Underwriting guidelines differ substantially between carriers. The same history can be declined by one and accepted by another — which is most of what a broker is actually for.
When to stop and go to the marketplace
If you need guaranteed acceptance, the ACA Marketplace is the answer, full stop. Guaranteed issue is exactly what it's for, and no underwritten plan can promise the same thing.
